The first day of spring is also known as the spring equinox, which occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north. This means that both hemispheres receive roughly equal amounts of sunlight, and day and night are almost equal in length. The spring equinox usually falls on March 20 or 21 in the Northern Hemisphere, and September 22 or 23 in the Southern Hemisphere.
The first day of spring is a popular topic in America because it marks the end of winter and the beginning of a new season. Many people celebrate this day with various traditions and customs, such as planting seeds, cleaning their homes, observing religious festivals, or enjoying outdoor activities. Some also believe that it is possible to balance an egg on its end on this day due to the Earth's tilt.
The first day of spring is also associated with some interesting facts and phenomena. For example, it is one of the only two times each year that the Sun rises due east and sets due west for all locations on Earth. It is also one of the earliest first days of spring in over a century, due to changes in the civil calendar and Earth's orbit.
Spring is coming, take care of yourself and your families:
Be careful of allergies. Spring is a time when many plants release pollen, which can trigger allergic reactions such as sneezing, itching and watery eyes. Avoid exposure to allergens by checking pollen counts, wearing a mask or taking antihistamines if needed.
Be careful of sunburn. As the days get longer and warmer, you may be tempted to spend more time outdoors. However, the sun's rays can still be harmful even if it's not very hot. Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen, hats and sunglasses.
Be careful of ticks. Ticks are small parasites that can carry diseases such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. They are more active in spring and summer, especially in wooded or grassy areas. Prevent tick bites by wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent and checking yourself and your pets for ticks after being outdoors.
Be careful of spring cleaning hazards. Spring cleaning is a great way to freshen up your home and get rid of clutter. However, it can also pose some risks such as injuries from lifting heavy objects, falls from ladders or exposure to chemicals or mold. Be safe by wearing gloves, masks and goggles when necessary, following instructions on labels and ventilating your space well.
